S. René Hicks, PhD

Dr. René is a highly respected psychotherapist committed to the empowerment of women and couples in their journey of mental health and relationship wellness. Through a combination of evidence-based therapies, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, mindfulness techniques, and trauma-focused interventions, Dr. René provides tailored treatment plans that address her clients' individual needs.  

Dr. René is licensed as a Clinical Professional Counselor and has several years of clinical experience across various therapeutic environments including private practice, community-based systems, and structured outpatient programs. With a passionate dedication to her craft, Dr. René’s specializes in serving clients in the following areas:

Driven by a passion for women's mental health issues and her commitment to help others, Dr. René pursued a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology at Seton Hall University, where she also earned an Education Specialist degree in Professional Counseling. Her thirst for knowledge and a desire to make a substantial impact in the mental health field led her to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counseling Psychology from Regent University where she focused on trauma and grief counseling.

Dr. René has built her practice around women's mental health, recognizing the unique challenges and experiences they face. By offering a safe and supportive space, she empowers women to explore their emotions, gain insight into their personal narratives, and develop effective coping mechanisms. Her expertise in anxiety and depression has allowed her to help countless women navigate the complexities of these conditions. By creating a warm and non-judgmental therapeutic environment, she enables her clients to uncover the root causes of their struggles and guides them towards healing and personal growth.

Dr. René has also developed a deep understanding of grief and trauma, recognizing their profound impact on women's mental health. Through compassionate counseling and specialized techniques, she assists her clients in processing their losses, overcoming trauma, and finding renewed strength and resilience.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Dr. René finds solace in nature, often spending her free time trail walking, practicing pranayama and pratyahara, and playing tennis. These activities allow her to maintain her own mental well-being and serve as a reminder of the importance of self-care.

Dr. René firmly believes in the inherent strength and resilience of women. Her therapeutic approach is grounded in the principles of empowerment, self-compassion, and cultivating healthy relationships with oneself and others. By honoring each client's unique journey, she helps women reclaim their lives, tap into their inner potential, and embrace a life of purpose and fulfillment.

Tomi Canty, LGPC

Tomi Canty is a dedicated and empathetic therapist committed to helping individuals—particularly adolescents—navigate life’s challenges with confidence and resilience. With a strong foundation in counseling and crisis intervention, she specializes in addressing anxiety, depression, trauma, anger management, and relationship concerns.

Tomi earned her Master of Arts in Counseling from Northwestern University, where she honed her expertise in evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Delaware State University, a background that strengthens her ability to foster meaningful connections with her clients.

With experience as a school-based therapist, crisis counselor, and mental health clinician, Tomi understands the complexities of emotional well-being at every stage of life. She creates a safe and nonjudgmental space where clients can openly express their struggles while developing practical coping strategies. Through mindfulness techniques, grounding exercises, and active listening, she empowers individuals to build self-awareness, process difficult emotions, and cultivate healthier relationships.

Katy Gingles, LGPC

Katy Gingles is a compassionate and thoughtful therapist dedicated to supporting individuals and families as they navigate life’s transitions, emotional challenges, and complex stressors. Grounded in curiosity and deep respect for each client’s lived experience, Katy helps people reconnect with their strengths, build resilience, and move toward meaningful change.

Katy earned her Master of Arts in Counseling from Northwestern University, where she developed a strong foundation in evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Psychodynamic Therapy, Mindfulness-Based interventions, and Neuroscience-Informed Counseling. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University and is a National Certified Counselor (NCC), reflecting her commitment to ongoing learning and ethical, client-centered care.

A Collaborative & Empowering Approach to Therapy

Katy’s work is shaped by years of experience walking alongside individuals and families facing significant life challenges. Before becoming a mental health counselor, she served in leadership and direct-service roles across maternal and child health, public health, and homelessness services. As Director of the federally funded Healthy Start program at Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Care, she led a multidisciplinary team providing home-based support to families during pregnancy and early parenting. Her background includes extensive work with pregnant and postpartum individuals, families navigating trauma and housing instability, and adults overcoming addictions and systemic barriers to care.

In the therapy room, Katy creates a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered. She integrates mindfulness, grounding techniques, and reflective exploration to help clients deepen self-awareness, process difficult emotions, and cultivate healthier patterns in their relationships and daily lives.
